Fuck cancer!

I really don’t use bad language on my blog but for once it is legitimate. I am sorry for no updates in the last week but cancer has struck our family. Yesterday my sweet mother-in-law had surgery to remove a 4×3 cm malignant tumour in her brain. It came as a total chock and has taken all our efforts lately. Hopefully they managed to remove the hole tumour, let’s see what the future holds. Please keep your fingers crossed that all will end well.

A treat with my 10AM coffee, because I’m worth it!

You know those mornings when you really need a treat? Today is one of them! I found one of my favourite childhood sweets in the store the other day and could not resist. The Mint Choco was my favourite chocolate and it is still nice but, maybe a bit grown up, these days dark chocolate is tastier than milk chocolate. Who would have thought? Haha, have a lovely day!

family love

family love

There is nothing bigger than family love!

Oh, how I love these amazing individuals! My family had an amazing time in Gran Canaria at Christmas. The weather was not as warm as last year but it was still stunning. One of the days when it was too windy to be on the beach we made a trip to the sand dunes of Maspalomas. It was absolutely breathtaking. I had no idea that it was so waste, it felt like we were in the Sahara desert. It was windy and we ran around jumping in the sand! A must-see if you ever travel to Gran Canaria. We were absolutely blown away, what a sweet memory.

Ella, Hannes, Nelli and Philip I love you more than words could ever explain!

I have some sale tips boys and girls!

Every new year I browse and make great bargains at Zara for my children. This year is no exception! I will be really sad the day that my children have outgrown the Zara Kids department (which will happen pretty soon, sadly). Browsing through I always find the style I am looking for. These are some of my favourites. I bought the patchwork denim skirt for Ella, she will love it, Hannes already looks great in the grey cardigan and Nelli loves her green bomber jacket.

The best part of it is that the sale prices are amazing! Happy sale shopping!

best early spring buy

best early spring buy

This is my best early Spring buy so far, and Cleo agrees with me!

A pair of leather sneakers from Zara, at a bargain price. I love the white, silver and beige combo. I love the worn or a bit used look and they are super comfy.

I will live in them come Spring. However it looks like it will be a while until I can use them as we got almost 20 cm of snow last night. It is white and crisp in Stockholm and tonight we are expecting -14 degrees!

With -9 degrees in Stockholm today I long back to last week with this Gran Canaria outfit!

It is freezing in Stockholm and  I dream of the warmer temperatures we had in Gran Canaria last week. This is an evening outfit, bare feet in heels with a little bit of a tan (not the toes though, haha) My favourite heels of all time, so incredibly comfortable four hours.

when the kids choose

when the kids choose
The first home cooked dinner of 2017 – when the kids choose!

Yesterday we had of first home cooked meal in 2017. I really love to cook and last night the kids got to choose our dinner plate. Their choice: my homemade meatballs with dijon mustard and thyme, homemade mashed potatoes, and cream sauce. Being Swedish we of course serve our meatballs with lingonberry jam.

For a healthier option I also cooked kale in a pan with olive oil, garlic, pine seeds and salt and pepper. This is my favourite side dish and I eat it at least four times a week. 🙂 Then I do not need the pasta or potatoes that of course the children eat and my husband loves. A fresh sallad with mixed leaves and tomatoes finished yesterday’s home run of a dinner. Bon appétit!

More sushi to the people is my device!

I loooooooooooove sushi! My children often ask what I would eat, which cuisine I would choose. If I could choose one country’s kitchen for the rest of my life. And every time I say Japanese, I loooove sushi so I was happy that I had a moment to spare to have seven pieces for a late lunch today.

Sweet gift from my mother!

And here it is, the Christmas gift the already came true! I got the stunning brass Hortus pot (Svenskt Tenn), in medium size, from my mother on Wednesday. We had a lovely mother and daughter moment in the city before my croquis lesson. Finishing off with excellent pasta dinner. I love browsing at Svenskt Tenn taking in and admiring all their classic designs and picture perfect decor. This brass pot was designed by Josef Frank in 1938!! The design is so timeless and versatile, at the moment it looks amazing on my wooden dining table.

Sweet Lucia morning!

We baked the traditional saffron buns on Sunday and picked one that Ella made for this morning’s Lucia tea. Swedish tradition is to have a “fika” with saffron buns and gingerbread cookies. I wish you a wonderful Lucia!

I know the perfect gift this Christmas!

I love these pot holders from House Doctor! They only get better with time.  In a soft leather and with a pocket on each they are so easy to use. On top of all they are stunning which is not easy to say about a pair of pot holders or oven mitts. I love to find a new twist on something boring and this is a gem. They are both nice to look at, well priced and useful a rare combo! (they also come in brown if that is your preference)

The winter is Stockholm at the moment is simply stunning!

Our street is covered in snow and the dog walks are stunning. Little Cleo jumps in the snowing the children are in heaven. I claim to only love snow when skiing but must admit that when it stays cold like this, -7 degrees this morning, it is breathtaking.

Here are three silk dreams that are on my mind at the moment!

Silk shirts are not always lady like, I love the new silk movement that gives you different silhuettes. The oversize is a great look as the fabric moves beautifully.

light up the dark

It feels like a lot of my time in December is about how to light up the dark!

Since we moved back to Sweden and Stockholm it gets harder and harder to handle the dark winter months. My husband and I really don’t feel that we are ment to live here. Although we really love our life here, the house, our friends and Stockholm we clearly are warm climate people, haha.

We have a wonderful life it is just the weather and, in the winter, the light that get us down. So a lot of candles are needed and it gets a bit better closer to Christmas when we fill the house with Christmas lights.

If you follow me you know that I have these beautiful candle holders/vases by Louise Roe, at my dining table. I love them and use them every meal. I normally use the larger tea candles for them, with aluminium cups. But the light gets even more beautiful using the tea candles with plastic cups, however they are a bit more expensive and not something I use everyday.

My latest visit to IKEA made me smile though as they now sell the plastic cup ones and they are a lot less expensive than in other stores, long live IKEA 🙂

Yesterday was the first of Advent!

OMG how this autumn has just flown by! Already the 1st of Advent mening only a few weeks to Christmas! Totally unbelievable. Every year I am inspired to create a new look for the Advent candles. This year I am using a marble tray (that usually carry a few Iittala  candle holders and our pepper mill and sea salt jar) I found these amazing tall candles at Granit and they also sell the star anise by weight. It gives a lovely scent. My little lit the first candle yesterday, she was so proud.

Loving a #tbt!

The best of all is that in less than a month we will be back in Gran Canaria for some much needed sun and hopefully sunbathing! We had amazing weather last year and hope to be blessed with it again this year. After a wet October and snowy November I dream of warmer temperatures and single layers of clothes. Can’t wait!
